Short and sweet.
This Oasis we live in, it’s very small and actually keeps you rather busy. There’s always something going on like my friend Aimee opened a business and was looking for some models for a photo shoot for their company website, social media page yada yada yada. Well obviously I put my hand up, not because I wanted to model, I’m just a super supportive friend.
They had a variety of people there, most of whom were connected to the business. I was the straggler that day. But it’s me we’re talking about so it doesn’t take long to get me chatting and finding out about everyone and just generally being nosy. It was very much a girls shoot, then the guys but then they mixed it up so they could focus on the couples section of their business. They partnered me with Sugar and he’s called Sugar because as soon as we were told we were partnered up together, he was like “come on Sugar” as if we were a couple.
Now I had never met this guy before, in fact he wasn’t even one of the ones I got chatting to at the start. He was tall, muscly which makes me weak at the knees, fair and a very solid jaw line. He was very good looking. ++ Yeah, I was totally ok with him calling me Sugar.
During the shoot, we were told to look into each other’s eyes. It was awkward and my first reaction was to scream "Nooo!" and laugh out loud with my unique cackle… only to realise that Sugar had actually looked over to me to do it. Face palm.
Here’s just some context: the group went for dinner after to celebrate the photo shoot, very casual and I invited everyone to my birthday boat party. It was my thing. I loved and still love, to organise and when it comes to a boat party, you better believe I was on it. Most of the guys seemed keen – ok, I lured them in by promising numerous single girls. There was 5 out of a group of 25. Only 20%. Nevertheless.
Fast forward to the boat party, Sugar and his mate came along. I mean there were abs everywhere. As girls, it was like attending a male fashion show. A male swimwear fashion show. What more could you want for your first birthday as a single girl after 7 or 8 years. Pat on the back Holly. JJ (my brother) even flew out to DJ on the boat. He’s not a professional but it’s a hobby. So he met Sugar and the banter was flowing.
JJ is younger than me but you’d think he was older and since what happened with the Narc, you can imagine he’s fairly protective (details to be provided in a blog near you – soon). He was also staying at mine that night because he doesn’t live in the Oasis which meant cock block 101 right there. Did not think that through. Sugar and I flirted heavily, he was extremely passionate about his job which was a huge turn on and although there were no kisses, I knew I’d be seeing him at Aimee’s ‘business’ event later in the month.
Fast forward again to Aimee’s business community event, I obviously went to show my support but also because most of the members knew who I was, therefore not making it too awkward to have a few beverages and dance in their company. Sugar and I clocked each other as soon as he walked into the bar. Aimee and I were on the ol’ espresso martinis which is dangerous for a girl who doesn’t drink caffeine. I was dancing with one of her employees, who is slightly younger than I am, extremely handsome and his abs are actually ridiculous (I know this because he was also on the boat party... you know the male swimwear fashion show).
It was a lot of fun and Aimee like me, loves her food. So we ordered sliders. That’s also something you should know about me, sliders are usually my go to when I’m out and about. When the food arrived at our table, so did Sugar. He sat down and me being me, offered him some food because he hadn’t eaten. We chatted a little but then I danced with two or three other guys purposefully keeping my distance. Oh and I did that because I was playing hard to get cause he equally didn't let on too much. Genuinely wasn't sure if he was interested even though he was at the top of all my insta story watching.
It was a smoky bar and probably about 2am on a Wednesday night, I start work at 7am so it was definitely time to get my little ass outta there. Whilst I paid my bill, the waiter gave me a free espresso martini because he liked my dancing so much. I mean, I’d pulled. Success. Sort of. But there was no way I could drink that drink or take that waiter home. “Aimee, you have this! I am done, I am so drunk and I am up in 4 hours!” Paid up and as I am walking out, well who should be behind me. Well done. You guessed it (I mean this story is all about him).
Sugar.
He was delicious to look at and so sweet - just like sugar. We stood outside and when my Uber arrived I gave him a kiss on the lips, I was even more confident with caffeine in me clearly. Jokes - it was the alcoholic beverages, obviously. He whispered in my ear, actually more like my neck, so seductively “cancel your Uber”. I smiled and replied “Nah, I think I’m going to keep you waiting” and sauntered back to my Uber, smiling my big grin. As if I had just done that?! And the arrogance prize goes to Holly Whitaker.
His face was a picture. He was in shock. Now I’ve told you before, one night stands weren’t my thing. Plus, I actually fancied this guy so I wanted him to take me for a drink first at least. I proved to him that I respect myself and I have values. What I didn’t realise is that actually, Sugar was very shy. And he making a bold move like that and I rejecting it meant he was embarrassed and very unlikely to make the same move again.
I got laryngitis following that night. Smoky bar and espresso martinis clearly don’t agree with me but the confidence in me after Sugar making his move meant that if I messaged him, he’d know I was still interested. I made some joke about how laryngitis is the kissing disease and had he given it to me following our kiss?
Let’s just say it went down like a lead balloon and that was that.
Moral of the story? Don’t be cocky if you want the cocky.
